Post-liberal foreign policy

Over the past three decades, Western foreign policy has often been sold as a moral mission: defending a “rules-based order”, spreading democracy, and intervening to stop abuses. But that approach appears to be fraying.

This event asks what a post-liberal foreign policy would mean in practice. If the starting point is national interest and prioritisation, what follows for alliances, deterrence, trade, borders, and the use of force? How should leaders weigh moral claims against the needs and desires of their people at home? And what would a serious strategy look like for the hard cases: Ukraine and Russia, the Middle East, China?

Sohrab Ahmari is the US editor of Unherd, the founder and former editor of Compact Magazine, and the author of Tyranny, Inc.

Please arrive at 6:30pm for a 6:45pm start.

Drinks and light refreshments will be provided.
